The Iconic Blog, Live a Life Less Ordinary

Last week I hosted the epitome of a summer soiree. We grilled on the roof and enjoyed a meal made almost entirely out of skewers!

    The Mister manned the grill.

I served an assortment of dishes from garlic marinated beef, shrimp and shitaki mushrooms….

    Caprese skewers.

A fantastic “forbidden rice” with grilled peaches and sweet sugar snap peas. I dressed it with a light and tangy ginger vinaigrette.

But the ultimate star of the show was the platter of skewered donuts.

I’m savoring these last few weeks of sweet summer.

    Rosé and Rainbows

    July 13th, 2011

While preparing for a rooftop dinner with the girls, a storm rolled through out of nowhere.

It passed as quickly as it came, and left a perfectly arched rainbow.

The rainbow spanned Central Park with each side ending right where the park appeared to end.

    Cheers!

    Daily Delights

    July 13th, 2011

Fresh flowers always brighten up my day.

Salad Nicoise is just as easy to prepare as it is beautiful.

Roast potatoes and tomatoes in a 400 degree oven for 30 min and serve with arugula, grape tomatoes, kalmata olives and cheese. Mix tuna with lemon, celery and mayo. Serve with lemon vinagrette.

Evenings out with my favorite Decorista.

This past Saturday I hosted a White Party at our house in East Hampton to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It was a delightfully chic way to host an evening soiree around the pool. We hung white lanterns and required a strictly white dress code.

We served tequila lime chicken skewers and watermelon and feta salad.

Guests sipped on refreshing champagne and elderflower cocktails and enjoyed the warm summer evening.

Red velvet cake pops dipped in white chocolate were the perfect way to end the delightful evening.

Nothing other than confections would be appropriate for the the sweets mogul Dylan Lauren’s bridal shower.

Can you believe that these are candy?! So much chicer than the version that I was wearing in the third grade.

    Crazy fabulous!

And of course a candy crown. Totally gorgeous and tasty!x

    Weeknight Dinner Party

    June 15th, 2011

I love the challenge of a last minute weeknight dinner party. When the mister informed me he had some friends visiting from out of town I threw together what turned out to be an absolutely delightful meal.

-Spinach salad with honey goat cheese and heirloom tomatoes

-Chicken with avocado and greek yogurt sauce

    -Roasted red potatoes with rosemary

    -Lemon cake with fresh strawberries

I have no recipes for you because I just kind of added a dash of this or that in a very informal manner. What is your favorite “go to” dish?

    Easter Brunch

    April 24th, 2011

I decided to host an Easter brunch this year. I love Easter and all of us ladies were very excited to finally don some Spring fashions.

The day turned out gorgeous and quite warm. A wonderful group of friends joined us and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

    I made these.

And then the sun came out and it was absolutely perfect.

How did you spend your Easter? What did you make?

I had to be very very sneaky, but I snuck some shots for you of the new Herme’s china line from the NY Tabletop Show.

Isn’t it gorgeous! I am crazy over the orange mosaic design!

Hermes can do no wrong by me. You could serve breadsticks off of this stuff and still be très très chic!

And promptly after the Tabletop Show, I headed north to the New York Design Center for the TradHome Launch party!

I met some wonderful new friends and got to see the amazing 1stDibs shop that is now housed there.

I love the things I can fit into an evening in this city.
