    Hamptons Bound

    June 16th, 2011

I’m packing up and heading for the East Hampton this weekend so I thought that I would share with you this gorgeous Hamptons garden from TradHome.

I’m always a bit sad to leave the city, but looking at these images has made me realize that the Hamptons aren’t so bad afterall.

The red carpet at The Plaza.

Loving the hydrangeas in their window boxes.

    So regal.

The swanky lounge in The Mark Hotel.

Never have I seen a cappuccino with such style!

    My city. My love.

Spring has sprung at the Union Square Green Market and everything is in bloom!

Rows and rows of plants taunt us as we all wonder where on earth do New Yorker’s have to garden?

The juxtaposition between the fresh food and flowers and the stark buildings never gets old.

Buckets of fresh blooms spill over and enticingly beckon to be brought home.

Whether small and sweet or lush and loud, these blooms brought endless glee to my weekend.

    What brightened up yours?

It isn’t often that I make the trek to outer boroughs, but I just had to see the BBG for myself.

I wish I would have come a few weeks earlier to see the cherry blossoms, but the gardens still had many wonderful sights to see.

I loved seeing all of the different styles of gardens from the structured to the wild.

My absolute favorite was the field of bluebells.

It seemed to go on for days!

The ponds were lovely and the sun was shining. Such a needed break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

There are few things in life as replenishing as spending an afternoon in a garden.

On Sunday, the Mister and I headed out to Governor’s Island to watch the Polo Match.

We donned our Sunday best and found a choice spot to picnic.

While I thoroughly enjoyed watching the match, it was the people watching that made my day.

People put some real effort into their outfits and it was so entertaining!

I decided that this was a sport that I could definitely get into. Everyone from the participants to the spectators looked fabulous.

And champagne was popping all afternoon long!

So fun. How was everyone’s weekend?

One of my favorite places to dine in the city is at the David Burke Townhouse. The food is always delicious and the whimsical presentation is perfectly carried out from start to finish. The bread was baked and served in individual copper pans and the butter was served on a pink salt block.

The split pea soup was served tableside with a fried, soft-boiled egg.

Their pretzel crab cake appetizer is one of my all time favorites.

I had the blackened sea bass as my main course. It was served with a sweet sesame sauce as was scrumptious!

The Mister had the braised short-ribs with pasta.

We ended the meal with some decadent chocolate mousse and..

    a wonderfully rich chocolate torte.

I have a new love. His name is Daniel. If you are ever in NYC you simple must eat here!

The ambiance of this Upper Eastside jewel simply cannot be beat.

Who could object to sky-high arrangements of fuchsia rhododendrons and peonies.

My meal started off with a delightful trio of poached shrimp, Spring pea puree, and smoked salmon for my amuse bouche.

Next came a scallop rosette. Divine!

Followed by grilled sea bass with a syrah reduction and caramelized cippolini onions.

The hubs got some delightful veal concoction.

Next came a chocolate cake filled with liquid caramel and milk sorbet. No words. Your life is not complete until you have eaten this.

And just as perfectly as it began, it ended with a collection of superb petite fours.

Two very happy, very full individuals.

    The End.
