The Iconic Blog, Live a Life Less Ordinary
  • DIY Christmas Decor

    December 1st, 2011

I’m back from California and the brisk New York air reminds me that it is time to start decorating for Christmas! So naturally I turned to Martha and spotted these fabulous ideas:

    Magazine Trees

I am going to line my windowsills with Glittery Candles.

A Stunning Wreath that I fully intend on recreating!

I love the idea of jingle bells on the door filling my home with music.

What are your favorite ways to decorate for the holidays?

    Accessories as Art

    November 22nd, 2011

I am a sucker for jewels. If it is sparkly and fabulous I have to have it. Now try as I may I am unable to wear all of my favorites at once so I have to settle on displaying them around my home.

In my opinion, gorgeous gems on black velvet busts and in beautiful trays is as good as art gets!

If you collection is overflowing like mine, try grouping objects by designer or color.

Store additional pieces in a chest that makes your whole collection feel like treasure!

I also adore displaying my jewelry mixed in with books. They are such an unexpected touch on a bookcase.

How do you display your jewels?

I’m not one for “earthy” decor, but I do love this idea of using Fall leaves on the tabletop with a sheer tablecloth. As Martha instructs:

“Display autumn leaves beneath a sheer tablecloth, and the dining room will look as brilliant as the maple in the front yard. Place leaves between paper towels or waxed paper inside a phone book for a week to dry and smooth them. If needed, use double-sided tape to attach foliage — in any grouping — to a standard white tablecloth. Then place a sheer cloth, such as organza, on top”

You all know that I am a sucker for anything gilded. Spray painting some gourds and pumpkins is the perfect way to blend autumnal charm with a dash of fabulous. And I love how this colorway complements my inspiration in yesterday’s post.

Gold leaf turkeys and candelabras? Absolute DO! Learn how to make them HERE.

White mini pumpkins paired with tapers make such a chic statement. Instructions HERE.

    My Thanksgiving Table

    November 17th, 2011

I’m not hosting Thanksgiving at my home this year. But if I were, I would definitely be doing something similar to the stunning tablescape above. Whether in teal and peach…

Or sherbert and cobalt – I really love the idea of pairing orange and blue.

And I’d definitely have to throw in something with a dash of sass like this:

Now who wants to see what I’d serve for dinner?

    Island Fever

    November 13th, 2011

Hello my lovelies! My sincerest apologies for the disappearing act. The Mister and I took a little island getaway with some friends for the past 10 days. We started out in Puerto Rico, where we enjoyed many a sunset on our beautiful rooftop and spent the days touring ancient fortresses along the sea.

After spending a few days there we set out on an island bender hitting St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, and St. Lucia. There were many beautiful beaches and a bit of jewelry shopping…

I even got a bit sporty and did some kayaking and crewed in a sailing race!

It was a great trip, but there is NO place like home and I missed my NYC!!

    Fashion + Food + Furniture

    November 5th, 2011

I have a hard time with pastels. They often seem to leave something missing, but when paired with hues such as bold gold they provide the perfect pallet for glamour. Whether on a cake, coat or chair – pretty pastels and gold reign supreme.

And you know that I couldn’t resist adding this stunning tablescape. Loving this for a girl’s baby shower!

    In a Monochromatic Mood

    October 29th, 2011

What is it about a monochromatic ensemble that just screams polished perfection?

It started with interiors but now I am completely mad about monochromatic dressing.

    So chic, no?

    Tory Burch Touches

    October 27th, 2011

I know that images of Tory Burch’s new Madison flagship store have been blogged everywhere, but it’s just so good that I had to share a few of my favorite elements as well. I stopped by last Sunday and was just blown away by the amazing attention to detail. This chair for instance. The ribbon detailing is SO fresh and chic. I will definitely be following suit on a pair of new wingback chairs.

Of course the fireplace vingette is insane. Mark my words I will have green velvet walls with gold scones and blue/white china in my country home but the most fantastic element is easily overlooked….

The logs in said fireplace are SOLID QUARTZ. And the photo does no justice, they are gorgeous!

Just thought you all should know this….
